Young People

Our Cadet scheme and Junior Membership programme help keep it affordable for our younger members.

We set up our cadet scheme to recruit and retain enthusiastic young people (from the age of 15) into the sport of gliding and has successfully been doing so for over 25 years. During this time the scheme has generated numerous Regional & National Champions as well as representatives on the British Team.

Due to the level of subsidy available on the cadet scheme, there are a limited number of places each year so it is not uncommon for there to be more applicants than places. Those who are unsuccessful can join as a Junior member (age 16+).

Apart from learning to glide, the skills and abilities that you pick up by simply being involved in gliding will develop to become great assets in later life, regardless of the career path that you take.

We also have a strong Junior Membership scheme. This is open to everyone over the age of 16 and runs alongside the cadet scheme. Whilst it does not offer the same level of subsidy as the cadet scheme it does significantly reduce the cost of membership, in line with age, until the age of 30 at which point they can become a full member.
