For many years the club has been committed to helping young people access the sport of gliding. Aside from learning to fly, there are immense benefits to be gained from participation in airsports from an early age. These include learning lifetime skills valuable in both education and the workplace.

Regardless of the choice of career, a gliding background is a valuable feature of the CV and of course it becomes a lifetime passion too.

We set up our cadet scheme over 20 years ago in order to recruit and retain enthusiastic young people into the sport. The scheme provides the same training and facilities that a full club member would receive but with the added benefit of both affordable membership and flying fees.

The club complies with the relevant regulations regarding the Welfare of Young people and in addition we are accredited as a BGA Junior Gliding Centre, the accreditation being subject to regular audit.

In every other respect, both our Cadets and Juniors are treated as equal members, sharing the same responsibilities on the airfield and enjoying the same benefits of membership as Full Flying Members. Two of our ex-cadets are now Deputy CFI’s at the club and another is also now our Chief Tug Pilot! Over the years we have produced several Instructors, Winch Drivers and Tug Pilots, not to mention Junior National Champions and representatives at International level events.
