The Clubhouse

The first wooden hangers were erected by 1932. In 1936 these were replaced by the present hangar and clubhouse, designed by renowned architect Christopher ‘Kit’ Nicholson. He was a Cambridge Don specialising in architecture, and was the private owner of a Wren sailplane.

The building received great acclaim in the architectural world and is now Grade II listed, retaining all of its 1930s heritage. In the restaurant, the wooden tables, travertine marble fireplace, and even the light fittings were all part of the Nicholson Art Deco design.
